About P & K's Role

What does a representative payee do?

A representative payee uses benefits for the beneficiary's current needs, saves funds that are not currently needed, keeps records, and provides accounting to Social Security when requested.

See Social Security's representative payee FAQ.

What are a representative payee's limits?

A representative payee’s authority is limited to Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits that the Social Security Administration (SSA) has placed under their care. Having P & K as your representative payee does not automatically make it your guardian, give it power of attorney, or authorize it to make healthcare decisions.

What is a nonprofit organization?

A nonprofit is organized to serve its stated mission rather than distribute profits to private owners. P&K is a nonprofit organization recognized as tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3). Learn about 501(c)(3) Organizations.

How does P & K coordinate with me, Social Security, my landlord, and the bank?

P&K acts as an independent mediator between the Social Security administration, your landlord, the bank, and yourself. We negotiate on your behalf to get you the maximum benefits from Social Security, we also negotiate with your landlord to establish housing and reduce potential fraud. Lastly, we maintain financial statements for your wellbeing and to monitor spending , we also mitigate needless/careless/irresponsible spending for the beneficiary.
